Brauner HLwd. des späten 19. Jh. mit Schleudermarmorbuntpapier. (Etwas berieben und bestoßen, an den Gelenken mit kleinen Bezugsschäden.)
With a large title woodcut and numerous woodcut initials . 2 pts. in 1 vol. Late 19th c. brown wrappers with sling marbled paper. (Somewhat rubbed and bumped, with small cover damage at joints). - Beautiful Venetian incunabula edition of the late 15th century and fifth Latin edition ever. The edition also includes the lives of Hannibal, Scipio Africanus, Charlemagne, Cicero, and Aristotle, among others. This extensive humanistic collaboration was done by Philelphus, Acciaiuolus, Veronensis and Leonardo Bruni. The beautiful woodcut entirely in the style of the Renaissance with floral framing and gems as corner fleurons shows Theseus fighting the centaur Eurytus. A2 old expertly backed in the margins, A1 (tabulae) bound in at the end of the book, old backed and without the title line. The outer margins were minimally trimmed in the 19th century to 30.5 x 19.5cm. Only a few leaves with stains or traces of water margins, some quires with small defect in the cut. At the beginning few quires with old marginalia in brown ink at the margin. Overall good and especially largely very clean copy of this rare incunabulum.
Essling 595, Goff P834, Sander 5782. - Schöne venezianische Inkunabelausgabe des späten 15. Jahrhunderts und fünfte lateinische Ausgabe überhaupt. Die Edition enthält zudem die Lebensläufe von Hannibal, Scipio Africanus, Karl dem Großen, Cicero und Aristoteles u.v.a. Diese umfangreiche humanistische Zusammenarbeit wurde von Philelphus, Acciaiuolus, Veronensis und Leonardo Bruni geleistet. Der schöne Holzschnitt ganz im Stile der Renaissance mit floralen Rahmungen und Gemmen als Eckfleurons zeigt Theseus im Kampf gegen den Kentauren Eurytus. - A2 alt am Rand fachmännisch hinterlegt, A1 (Tabulae) am Ende des Buches eingebunden, alt hinterlegt und ohne die Titelzeile. Die Außenränder wurden im 19. Jahrhundert minimal auf 30,5 x 19,5cm beschnitten . Nur wenige Blätter mit Flecken bzw. Wasserrandspuren, einige Lagen mit kleinem Defekt im Schnitt. Zu Beginn wenige Lagen mit alten Marginalien in brauner Tinte am Rand. Insgesamt gutes und vor allem weitegehend sehr sauberes Exemplar dieser seltenen Inkunabel.
