Calvin Coolidge TLS Following His Reelection to a Full Term Presidency
1p typed, measuring 7" x 9", Washington, D.C., dated November 13, 1924. Signed "Calvin Coolidge" and addressed to Hon. Edward N. Hurley on the U.S. Shipping Board. Coolidge thanks Hurley for his support in the recent election. Written on White House stationery, the letter has flattened mail folds and light uneven toning. Minor foxing in places. Large and bold signature.
In full:
"My thanks for your generous note of congratulations on the result of the election. I hope your anticipation of its consequences will be verified, and I note with pleasure your assurance of readiness to serve in any way that you can. I shall not hesitate to draft you if occasion requires."
In August 1923, Calvin Coolidge ascended to the presidency after the unexpected death of President Harding. Just one year later, he faced reelection in a showdown between himself, Democratic nominee John W. Davis, and Progressive Robert M. La Follette. Coolidge won a decisive victory, with 382 Electoral votes and 54% of the popular vote.
