Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A fine hand-built pottery figurine of a seated woman with bent legs and stylized face. She sits on a stable posterior with her hands resting on her knees facing forward. Applied nodules on her chest indicate breasts, and additional nodules decorating her arms and torso are indicative of ritualistic scarification, interpreted to indicate high ranking status. Her elongated head has an oversized beak like nose, impressed eyes, and mouth with large earspools hanging from under her applied headdress surmounted by a crested finial. Size: 2" L x 1" W x 3" H (5.1 cm x 2.5 cm x 7.6 cm)
