Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. This is a seated female figure holding a small bowl in her right hand. She has an expressive face and wears earrings and a nose ring; her hair is elaborately up and she has the bubbled texture on her shoulders that is a characteristic of Jalisco pottery and may represent scarification or some form of armor or dress. This figure would have been placed into a shaft tomb; small figurines that faced outward around the perimeter of graves inside of shaft tombs are a hallmark of the elusive early West Mexican cultures in Jalisco and neighboring Nayarit and Colima. Size: 8.5" W x 12.25" H (21.6 cm x 31.1 cm)
