Description
Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, ca. 600 to 1200 CE; southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, ca. 250 to 900 CE. A fine selection of 5 hand-carved stone celts from ancient Mesoamerica. First are 3 Costa Rican celts: 1 with a spade-shaped body and white caliche as well as 2 light brown-beige celts with tapered petaloid bodies. Next are 2 Maya stone celts of either columnar or petaloid forms, each with a sharpened cutting edge and smooth surfaces. Size of largest (Maya gray celt): 2.96" L x 1.17" W (7.5 cm x 3 cm)
Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010

Each piece has nicks and abrasions commensurate with age as well as some areas of light roughness, otherwise intact and very good. Nice surface smoothness across most surfaces.
