Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Linea Vieja, Atlantic watershed, ca. 200 to 500 CE. Absolutely stunning example of stone-work! Carved, drilled and string cut deep green translucent omphacite jade in the form of a tall avian figure. Long thin blade, hands crossed at chest, slightly raised relief eyes and tall crest - drilled laterally through the head. Size: 1" W x 7.125" H (2.5 cm x 18.1 cm); 8" H (20.3 cm) on included custom stand.

This has been tested using XRF technology and is shown to be omphacite jade of a type found in this region of Costa Rica, of the period stated.

Provenance: private British Columbia, Canada collection, gifted from aunt in Tucson, Arizona, USA, acquired prior to 1994
