Description
Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Guanacaste/Nicoya region, ca. 200 to 600 CE. An intriguing example of an abstract anthropomorphic figural pendant that is hand-carved from pistachio-hued omphacite jade. Of slender form, the figure presents with attenuated legs, stocky arms bent atop his abdomen, and angular shoulders with a biconically drilled suspension hole on either side of the neck. The rectangular head features a pair of slender eyes with drilled pupils, a triangular nose, and a slender mouth. Size: 1.46" W x 2.43" H (3.7 cm x 6.2 cm)

Condition
Restoration to petite area of upper lip as shown. Minor abrasions commensurate with age, with light softening to some finer details. Great surface smoothness and preservation to figural form. Old inventory label on verso.
