Pre-Columbian, Central America, eastern El Salvador and Honduras, Quelepa culture, Late Lepa Phase, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery bowl with a planar base, a gently carinated lower shoulder, and a deep basin. Enveloped in red, orange, and beige pigments, the bowl presents a program of linear and circular decorations across the exterior, a large X on the base, and a red ring surrounding the rim. Inside the basin are registers of slanted lines, solid bands, and a pair of highly abstract avian creatures with lengthy necks and broad tail feathers. Size: 7.75" W x 3.625" H (19.7 cm x 9.2 cm)

Repair to rim with chips and adhesive residue along break lines. Minor abrasions, chips, and fading to pigment, with a couple of petite spalls, and light pitting. Nice preservation to geometric motifs and birds within basin.
