ARCHAISTIC COLLECTION
爐取整料白玉為材，細膩瑩潤，光澤飽滿。分蓋與爐身，蓋呈四坡簷，頂設束腰方冠式捉鈕，鈕下刻蓮瓣紋一周，蓮瓣飽滿，排列規整。蓋及爐腹四棱線施琢雙勾技法，以壓地隱起飾仿古獸面紋，眉線凹凸曲折，紋飾古樸抽象。方形爐口，四壁向下斜收，近底處凸棱一周，下承仰蓮瓣紋，與蓋面覆蓮瓣紋呼應。爐身四面凸雕獸首銜環，獸大眼，濃眉捲曲，鼻翼寬厚，吐長舌連接爐腹恰成半圓形環，一派複刻的擬古風格。整體除局部雕琢仿古紋飾加強裝飾效果，亦增加端莊肅穆感，餘處遵循「良玉不雕」原則，體現玉如凝脂、精光內蘊之特色。
清乾隆時期，皇帝熱衷於收藏，且平定回部掌握和闐玉料的來源，為仿古玉器的製作創造有利條件。當時的仿古玉器基本為宮中造辦處製作，從數量到品質皆達到高峰。此時期的仿古玉器大致可分為三種，一是在形式上仿古，即以青銅器或古玉為藍本，進行完全仿古；二是根據新意改作古玉；三是風格上仿古，器型和紋飾比古器多有增損，然仿其神韻。本品玉質上乘，做工淳厚古樸，從欽定四庫全書－西清古鑑、卷十三 ãƒ» 周〈邢侯方彝〉之形制，可作為仿古之複刻原型範本。然無論器型或紋飾皆加入新的創意與巧思，且四方形爐在清宮玉器中較為少見，極具典藏價值。
本件方爐四坡簷蓋造形，乃擬仿宮殿式建築的屋頂。紫禁城太和門正門頂可為本品坡簷蓋造形之參考。太和殿又稱金鑾殿，為紫禁城內規模最大的殿宇，屬中國皇宮主殿最尊貴的建築形式。細觀整體，造形方正規矩，製作工藝考究，刀法俐落，靈動流暢，未雕琢繁雜紋飾，以玉材本身剔透美感取勝，富有淡雅柔美姿態，反映文人高潔情趣，常置案頭，予人雍容典雅美感。
