ARCHAISTIC COLLECTION
爐取整料白玉雕琢，玉質瑩潤凝脂，結晶細密光潔。器分蓋與爐，子母口緊密吻合。蓋頂為盤龍鈕，龍呈蹲姿，頭上單角，四肢粗壯，尾部上揚與鬚相接，姿態威猛，動感十足。蓋面四角飾以變形蟬紋。爐呈倭角矩形體，寬邊平口，短束頸，頸、腹兩側鏤雕龍首，下置活環耳。爐肩四邊飾變形夔龍紋，下腹蓮瓣紋一周，線條挺拔硬朗，靈動流暢，餘光素簡約又不失清雅秀麗。底承四獸足，呈現恢弘神威。整體造形凝練沉穩，磨工細潤，雕刻技法純熟，起線與打窪互相搭配，卻又涇渭分明，凸顯兩者之間相得益彰的效果，是為文房清供、陳設、玩賞之用，常置於案頭，予人雍容典雅之感。
玉器仿古，古已有之，以北宋金石學興起之後尤為盛行。宋元以降，文人士大夫收藏、鑑賞古玉蔚然成風。清代乾隆皇帝好古，上行下效仿古之風尤為盛行，其中最具鮮明特點的就是仿古彝器，在器型、紋飾上對商周特別是西周青銅禮器進行仿製。本件蓋爐則以中國歷史博物館庋藏春秋中期〈秦公簋〉為基礎，並融合當時代的風格特點，製作出既有古代遺韻，又顯變化的嶄新樣貌。如清宮舊藏，北京故宮博物院庋藏清〈碧玉獸耳菊瓣紋爐〉，與本品皆屬十八世紀仿古創新之佳例。以圓雕獸首為主題，捨去喧賓奪主之紋飾，採用素面設計，凸顯玉材本身細密瑩透之質，古樸中不失靈動，演繹出遠古青銅器神秘風格，更體現十八世紀仿古玉雕特徵。在實用的焚香功能之餘，以其古樸、穩重風格烘托出莊嚴氛圍，甚是難得之陳設觀賞佳品。
