Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Springdale, Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi), Mogollon, ca. 1175 to 1300 CE. A lovely polychrome pottery vessel created of the St. Johns type. The body rests on a rounded but stable base and boasts a globular body and a squat, flared neck. Two strap handles applied to the broad shoulders were perhaps used for carrying or suspension. The exterior is painted a terracotta red with intricate black and white linear and triangular patterns across the shoulder and neck. The piece was shaped using the coil and scrape technique before painting the motifs. Size: 5" Diameter x 4" H (12.7 cm x 10.2 cm)

Restoration to handles and overpainting where they are reattached. Body is intact and very good. Earthen and mineral deposits on the interior. Age expected surface wear with fading and chipping to pigments.
