Description
Native American, Southwestern United Sates, Arizona, Jeddito, Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi), ca. 1300 to 1400 CE. A beautiful example of a Jeddito yellowware bowl, with iron and carbon black pigments creating a stylized avian and geometric motif. The bowl has a rounded but stable base and thick walls that swell slightly outward and then up to a steep rim. The interior basin has a highly abstract bird motif painted in black pigments. The tail is a triangular shape with a stepped edge. A lengthy neck flares from the rectangular body to a beak and a crest of three curving lines. Once pointed out, the symbolic road runner bird is apparent. Jeddito ware is exclusively produced in the Hopi Mesas and known for fine form, deep golden tones, and finely executed designs. The yellow hues of this bowl have faded to a creamy beige white but retain a golden glow around the peripheries of the black pigments. Size: 7.75" Diameter x 3" H (19.7 cm x 7.6 cm); 4" H (10.2 cm) on included custom stand.
