Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Ancestral Puebloan / Anasazi culture, ca. 1050 to 1225 CE. A delightful pottery jar presenting a planar base and impressively thin walls that rise to a bulbous body with a rounded shoulder, a tubular neck, and a gently flared rim. A lug handle projects from one side of the neck, displaying the appearance of an animal head with perky ears above an elongated snout. The exterior of the impressive vessel is adorned with black-on-white decoration featuring a thick band of vertical striations that encompass the body and a series of spiraling triangular motifs that envelop the neck. Size: 5" Diameter x 5" H (12.7 cm x 12.7 cm)
Provenance: private Wabasha, Minnesota, USA collection; ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F. Simpson collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from 1970 to 2000

Condition
Professionally repaired with restoration and repainting. Chipping with minor areas of loss to rim. Surface wear commensurate to age, as shown. Otherwise, very nice with impressively preserved pigments.
