AMERICAN SCHOOL (19TH CENTURY) FOLK ART MINIATURE PORTRAIT OF A WOMAN, watercolor, fine stylized depiction of subject wearing black Empire-style gown with lace collar, gold chain with locket, and tortoiseshell comb, no signature located. Housed under glass in a period ebonized frame with mother-of-pearl floral inlay. Circa 1830. 1 3/4" x 2 1/4" sight, 4 1/4" x 3 7/8" OA.
Very good overall visual condition, faint crack to background off subject's right shoulder. Frame with minor wear. Not examined out of frame.
Provenance: The collection of the late Theodore "Ted" and Alvina Breckel, Oley, PA and Winnetka, IL.
