AMERICAN OR BRITISH SCHOOL (19TH CENTURY)FOLK ART MINIATURE PORTRAIT OF AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN GENTLEMAN, watercolor on card stock on laid paper, vibrant, bust-length depiction of a figure in profile, wearing top hat, powdered wig and brown coat with brass buttons, possibly a coachman, no signature located, period ink inscription to pine backing board verso identifying sitter as "Joseph Greene / Born 7 April 1840". Housed under glass in a 19th-century molded giltwood frame. Mid 19th century. 4 3/4" x 3" object, 6" x 5" OA.
Portrait in very good overall visual condition with minor toning and areas of discoloration. Frame with wear and losses.
