Description
Colorado landscape of gnarled windswept trees at timberline, c. 1923, etching 5 x 3 3/8 in., matted in a new 8-ply matt (11 3/4 x 10 1/8 in.), signed in pencil lower left with inscribed salutation below matt in pencil "The season's greatings from Mr. and Mrs. George E Burr - Dec. 1923". There is a tear in center bottom margin of paper that does not go into the image (see images), otherwise in excellent condition.
This etching is one of a small group that came from the family of a Colorado print maker that was a contemporary of Burr who received these etchings as annual Christmas greetings from either Burr personally or from Cyrus Boutwell, a well-known Denver decorator and Burr's dealer, between roughly 1918 - 1923. Most have a personal Christmas salutation written in pencil below the matt line. They were never matted or framed and thus are in excellent, like new condition.
