Description
Colorado Landscape, c. 1918, etching 2 7/8 X 2 1/2 in., housed in new 8-ply matt (9 7/8 x 10 1/4 in,), signed in pencil lower left, annotated “Del et imp” (indicating a proof etching printed by Burr himself). This impression was obviously made to give to someone as a Christmas present as it is inscribed in pencil below the matt line “The season’s greetings from M.r and Mrs. Burr Dec.1918 “.
This etching is one of a small group that came from the family of a Colorado print maker that was a contemporary of Burr who received these etchings as annual Christmas greetings from both Burr personally and some from Cyrus Boutwell, a well-known Denver decorator and dealer, between roughly 1915 - 1923. Most have a personal Christmas salutation written in pencil below the matt line. They were never matted or framed and thus are in excellent, like new condition.
