Description
John Adams Land Grant Signed. One partially printed page of vellum, 12.5" x 12.5" (sight), Philadelphia; June 25, 1799. A document granting one thousand acres of land between "the little Miami and Sciota Rivers, north west of the River Ohio." The land is awarded "in consideration of military service performed by Erasmus Gill (a captain for seven years) to the United States, in the Virginia Line on Continental Establishment, and in pursuance of an Act of Congress of the United States..." Signed by John Adams as President and countersigned by Timothy Pickering as Secretary of State. With white paper seal at the lower left. Mounted and framed with an engraved portrait of Adams and a typed caption to an overall size of 29" x 25". Not examined outside of the frame. Condition: Dampstaining with some loss to upper right corner. Document is rubbed and toned from age with smoothed creases.
