Description
Land grant for one hundred acres in Hampshire County, Virginia to Even Caudy and John Cheshire in 1813. Signed by James Barbour, Esq, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia. With seal. In modern frame. James Barbour (1775-1842) was the 18th Governor of Virginia (1812-1814) and the first governor to reside in the Virginia Governor's mansion. After his tenure as Governor, Barbour became a U.S. Senator (1815- 1825), U.S. Secretary of War (1825-1828), and Minister plenipotentiary to Great Britain (1828-1829). 15-1/2" high x 12-1/2" wide; frame 5/8" wide.
