Description
Taino. An outstanding paired Anthropic union. The primary figure of this Cemi has an accompanying figure draped down his back. Long thin arms, extended ribs and articulated vertebrae a common Taino theme denoting the metaphorical transition from human to skeletal state during cohoba transformation rituals. The secondary companion has the head turned backward. In this case each figure looks in opposite directions, a possible reference to duality or divine opposition. Extensively carved in an incredibly display of compositional balance and figural dialogue. From the Collection of Larry Roberts, author of "Taino Sculpture, Art of the Gods" and "Taino Hallucinogenic Implements, Inhaling the Cosmic Dust." Size: 7.5'' x 3.5'' x 3.5'' (19 x 9 x 9 cm).
