Description
Taino. An extraordinary full figure vomit spatula featuring a large cacique (chief) finale. He is portrayed as if sitting on a duho. He holds his knees and stares into space, a typical Taino design feature indicating cohoba intoxication. The elongated head probably indicates skull compression, in this case tabular oblique modification. As the name suggests, vomit spatulas were used to cleanse the body prior to the ingestion of cohoba. Elaborately decorated spatulas are unique to the Taino culture. Comes with a display mount. Lignum vitae. From the collection of Larry Roberts, author of "Taino Sculpture, Art of the Gods" and "Taino Hallucinogenic Implements, Inhaling the Cosmic Dust." Size: 17'' x 2'' x 1'' (43 x 5 x 3 cm).
