Description
Taino Statue of a Kneeling Shaman Priest. In reverence to the the Gods or ancestors, figure has hands on knees. Highly Incised on back and head. Top of head depicts abstract reptilian head. On back of head is a quadrant representing the 4 courses of the world, N., S., E. and W. Vertebrae defined by a series of knobs down back encircled bird head symbols appear on shoulders and hips. Incised ribs denote caciques sides. Made of Magnetite. Provenance: Collection of Larry Roberts, author of "Taino Sculpture Art of the Gods" and "Taino Hallucinogenic Implements Inhaling the Cosmic Dust." Size: 10'' x 4'' x 6'' (25 x 10 x 15 cm).
