Description
A carved wooden magic shrine object featuring 4 spirit faces on a male and female body, supporting a wooden cup which likely served as some sort of mortar to mix magic ingredients by a shaman/priest. Note the exquisite faces which likely indicate the omnipotent nature of the spirit world, knowing and seeing all in every direction. Kusu peoples, DRC/ Congo, central Africa. The object measures 11.5 inches tall ( 13.5 inches tall on custom base) Provenance: The Sol & Josephine Levitt collection, New York.
