Taino Pounder w/ Frog, Puerto Rico (900-1500 AD)
This pestle is a fine example of Taino craftmanship, used to grind cohoba seads in preperation for hallucinogenic journeys. The stylized coqui frog sits atop the pounder. Said to have welcomed the Taino when the migrated to the islands from South America, the coqui is seen as an important symbol of the history of Puerto Rico.
