Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Western Mexico, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE. A wonderful selection of hand-built and highly burnished pottery vessels decorated with fine red pigment. First is a bowl with a rounded base and a shallow basin adorned with an oblong red disc bearing five circular spots. Second is a petite, round-bottomed jar with an apple-shaped body, a pair of abstract avian heads that double as handles, and vibrant red pigment around the upper half. The largest vessel is a broad bowl with squat walls, a shallow basin, and red pinstripes coursing across the orange bottom. Lucite display stands for photography purposes only. Size of largest (shallow dish): 9.4" W x 1.75" H (23.9 cm x 4.4 cm)
Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s

Condition
All vessels have small nicks and abrasions, with very minor fading to some areas of pigmentation, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to pigment throughout.
