TWO EARLY PAINTED POTTERY VESSELS
Neolithic Period, Gansu/Yangshao Culture
The first a large storage jar, the sloping upper body and cylindrical neck painted in black and dark red with sweeping spirals, the sides applied with two loop handles, 26.2cm (10 2/8in) high; the second, a bowl of compressed globular body and short tapering neck, decorated with geometric patterns, 20.2cm (8in) wide.

Condition
The bowl: In seemingly good condition.

The jar: later pads added to the feet; some chips to the extremities, the largest approx 1cm wide.

Both with minor firing imperfections and general surface wear typical of age.
