Description
East Asia, China, Neolithic Period, Majiayao culture, ca. 3300 to 2000 BCE. A hand-built pottery bowl of utilitarian form with a flared foot beneath the broad basin walls. The interior of the basin is decorated with four sections of red spiralized lines outlined in black, all surrounding a deep central surface. A pair of perforations in the foot were perhaps intended for hanging the vessel when not in use. Size: 6.875" W x 3.375" H (17.5 cm x 8.6 cm)

Condition
Nicks and abrasions to foot, rim, and basin surfaces, with a couple of small spalls within basin, some stable hairline pressure fissures around center of basin not indicative of repairs, and fading to black and red pigment, otherwise intact and very good. Nice remains of pigment within basin.
