Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Guanajuato Valley, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished redware pottery vessel with a round but stable base, a pair of spherical chambers with sloping walls and open tops, and a thick strap handle arching between the two interior rims. The vermilion-hued vessel is densely decorated with black-painted motifs in linear, crosshatch, triangular, and zigzagging designs. Size: 7.375" W x 4.375" H (18.7 cm x 11.1 cm)
Provenance: ex-private estate collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, formed between 1970 and 2000

Condition
Repairs to areas of handle and one chamber, with small chips and light earthen stabilization material along some break lines. Minor nicks and abrasions to base, both chambers and rims, and handles, with light fading to original pigment, and encrustations. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
