**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Monte Alban, Zapotec culture, ca. 700 to 1200 CE. A hand-built terracotta vessel with a wonderful visage of a deity incised on the exterior walls which gently flare at the rim. The deity presents with leering eyes, elaborate ear ornaments, fierce fangs, and an extended tongue. The remainder of the vessel boasts a smooth, burnished finish. Size: 5.25" in diameter x 4.75" H (13.3 cm x 12.1 cm)
Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, collected from 1950s to 1960s

Repaired from several pieces with break lines barely discernible. Expected chips to rim and periphery of base, as well as some small nicks to surface, commensurate with age. Otherwise, excellent.
