Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chancay, ca. 1000 to 1300 CE. A lovely bi-chrome pottery vessel decorated with geometric patterns painted on the exterior. The form consists of a globe-shaped body with a narrow neck and a slightly flared cup-shaped lip. Miniature strap handles flank the midsection of the body. The black interlacing geometric patterns were perhaps inspired by the rich textile tradition of the Chancay culture. This piece was used for storing chicha de jora, a fermented corn beer, and the petite mouth would have helped to prevent evaporation. Lucite ring in photos not included with piece. Size: 7.5" W x 7.5" H (19 cm x 19 cm)
Provenance: ex-private Frankfurt, Germany collection, pre-1970s
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
