**First Time At Auction**
Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A mold-formed pottery head fragment of a male wearing a puffy hat topped with a double feather crown (swty in Egyptian, literally "the two feathers") bearing a pair of tall ostrich feathers centered with a hemispherical sun disc. The portrait face presents with almond-shaped eyes flanking a prominent nose, full lips and cheeks, a rounded chin, and tall ears on either side of the rounded brow. This type of portraiture is usually seen in larger mummy masks carved from wood primarily during the Late Dynastic and Ptolemaic periods. Size: 2.3" W x 4.125" H (5.8 cm x 10.5 cm); 4.8" H (12.2 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition
This is a fragment of a larger pottery composition. Losses to areas beneath neckline and atop double feather crown as shown. Softening to some facial details and light encrustations. Nice preservation to overall form of face.
