Description
William Henry Harrison Autograph Letter Signed "WH Harrison." One page, 5.5" x 8.5", no place; September 13, [1837]. Addressed to his son-in-law, William. The letter reads in full: "After all the trouble I have had in the affair I am doubtful whether the assigned Irishman can be removed. If you cannot get the winter spinach bring the other. I want you also to bring me a box of the paste which is put on boots to make them water tight. You will find it at the corner of 5th & Vine or race Sts. at an Apothecary's shop. P.S. ask Mr. JG Barnet if he has no more money for me." With an address page, sent to the Cincinnati Clerks Office. At the time this was written, the Cincinnati & Whitewater Canal was being dug through the Harrison property. Most of the labor force was made up of German and Irish immigrants, which is possibly what Harrison was referring to in his letter. Condition: Flattened mail folds. Tearing and an uneven top edge. Some ink spotting and transference from folding. Mounting residue on verso at the top edge. Toning, wear, and soiling to the address page.
