Description
William Henry Harrison Document Signed "Wm H. Harrison." One page, 7.5" x 3.25", [city illegible], Illinois; November 14, 1794. Return for provisions for a Barge Crew of five men over the course of two days. In 1791, future president William Henry Harrison was commissioned as an ensign in the Army in the 1st Infantry Regiment, being only 18 years old at the time. Serving in the Northwest Indian War, Harrison was soon promoted to lieutenant and later became General Anthony Wayne's aide-de-camp. He fought at the decisive Battle of Fallen Timbers on August 20, 1794, which ended the Northwest Indian War. Harrison continued his service in the Army, earning promotion to Captain, until he resigned in 1798. Condition: Flattened folds with an uneven bottom edge. Ink smudging and minor soiling. Mounting residue on verso.
