Description
**First Time At Auction**
West Africa, Nigeria, Yoruba peoples, ca. second half of the 20th century CE. A hand-built pottery bowl with a domed lid bearing a figural handle. The black and red vessel has a deep basin and a pair of parabolic handles on the sides, and the lid rests atop a shallow groove just inside the rim. The lid bears a stylized female face with semicircular eyes, a narrow nose, and full lips beneath a crested coiffure, and a yellow-painted necklace adorns the front of her chest. Size (w/ lid): 9.875" W x 9.75" H (25.1 cm x 24.8 cm)

Condition
One side of bowl repaired from approximately 4 pieces, with resurfacing and overpainting along break lines. Nicks and abrasions to body and lid, with light encrustations. Great remains of original pigment throughout.
