Description
A Chippendale carved walnut tall chest Philadelphia or Chester County, PA, dated, "1773" The dust board below second long drawer inscribed in ink, "Jesse Hutton his hand and pen 1773/ Jesse Hutton made this draw in the year of our Lord 1773", and marked in chalk with Quaker star, with original rococo fire gilt brass pulls.H: 62 1/2 in. W: 43 1/2 in. D: 22 1/2 in. PROVENANCE: Christie's, New York, October 12, 2001, Lot 109.Private Western Pennsylvania Collection.
Condition
clean overall, in good, solid and sturdy condition; nice even surface, with some occasinoal cracquelure to a probable later old refinish; top with a water ring; retains original brasses; lock removed from bottom drawer; repaired breaks to back feet caps; minor chip to scroll on back right-facing foot; repaired break to scroll on front right-facing foot; blocks on bottom of feet possibly replaced (with two extras to inside of a drawer); break to block on front underside of front right-facing foot, but piece is present and appears to have been reglued at some point in the past; minor occasional scuffs and scrapes commensurate with age; some minor age splits to side; repair to molding on back of top left-facing side;
