A Chippendale carved walnut armchair, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1760
Provenance
With shaped crest-rail with rolled ears and central carved shell, fluted stiles, solid splat, with boldly scrolled arms, on shaped apron, cabriole legs ending in ball-and-claw feet.
H: 41 in. W: 25 ½ in. D: 19 in.

Collection of a Virginia gentleman.
Condition
lot 42: refinished; horizontal gouge to front right-facing stile; old repaired break to left-facing and to left-facing armrest (re-pinned); both arms have been re-pinned, and have been reattached to the seat rail; the shoe with repaired break; some wear to front of feet; patch to upper back right-facing leg; some probable fill to splat; armrest exteriors do not have carved volutes (but appears to have been made that way); seat frame is old
