Description
A REPUBLIC OF TEXAS TREASURY WARRANT, SAMUEL B. SHAND, SIGNED AND ISSUED AT WASHINGTON, AUGUST 29, 1843, engraving and hand inscribed ink on paper fragment, no. 1030, "Treasury Warrant. The Treasurer of the Republic of Texas will pay to the order of Geo. W. Hill one hundred dollars our ot any money appropriated by act of January 6th, 1842...," signed by Samuel B. Shand, Comptroller, endorsed as paid and signed by George Washington Hill verso, appropriation no. 34, with partial dogwood flower bloom pattern with "Texian Print." and "Washington.," among the blossoms, within a wheel and quatrefoil motif edge. 3 3/4" x 6 3/4" Note: George Washington Hill (1814-1860), secretary of war and secretary of the navy in Sam Houston's cabinet. The present warrant issued under Sam Houston's second term as President of Texas. Provenance: Estate of Dr. Paul E. Shutts, Houston, Texas.
Condition
