Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, central Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1400 to 1532 CE. A sturdy mace head of a trapezoidal form that is hand-carved from mottled dark-brown stone with beige and light brown inclusions. The mace head features a slightly rounded butt end, a biconically drilled hafting slot in the center, and an acutely angled, crescent-shaped blade edge. The minimalist design of this weapon suggests that it was meant solely as a means of dispatching of one's enemies rather than bearing some symbolic significance. A brutal yet effective example of Inca stone weaponry! Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 3.125" W x 3.25" H (7.9 cm x 8.3 cm)
Provenance: private Colgate, Wisconsin, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to 1990s; ex-John Montovan collection, Dekalb, Illinois, USA
