Description
Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. An intriguing mace head of conical form bearing a trio of hemispherical lobes protruding from around the upper body. The dark gray and brown stone features attractive veining in lighter hues of cream, beige, and butterscotch. Below the bulb-form emanations is a trio of incised striations that create a layered motif along the lower body, perhaps a personal touch by the weapon's owner. A socketing shaft runs vertically through the body and enabled the mace head to be mounted atop a lengthy wooden pole. Size: 2.28" W x 2.99" H (5.8 cm x 7.6 cm)
