Description
This lot consists of a graphite illustration on paper, done in the expressive style of Vincent Van Gogh (Dutch, 1853-1890). "Vincent" is hand-written at lower right corner of composition. Image is brimming with careful linework and creative style; in it, we see a humbly-dressed man paused in contemplation. This is the perfect example of the vivid, Post-Impressionist manner for which Van Gogh is so well respected. Unframed piece measures approximately 11.5" x 8.25".
Reverse side of piece features two stamps. One reads "Vincent van Gogh"; the other is partial, but includes the words "Van Gogh" and "Harlem, Holland".
Vincent Willem van Gogh was a major Post-Impressionist painter. He was a Dutch artist whose work had a far-reaching influence on 20th-century art. His output includes portraits, self portraits, landscapes and still lifes of cypresses, wheat fields and sunflowers. Van Gogh drew as a child but did not paint until his late twenties; he completed many of his best-known works during the last two years of his life. In just over a decade he produced more than 2,100 artworks, including 860 oil paintings and more than 1,300 watercolors, drawings, sketches and prints.
