Description
This lot consists of an ink and watercolor illustration on paper, done in the style of Francisco Zuniga (Mexican, 1912-1998). Image depicts an abstracted woman holding an infant. Her features are exaggeratedly round, with just a whisper of color to delineate the picture. A tender and beautiful composition. A tiny, handwritten graphite inscription at lower right corner reads "Zuniga 1963". This unframed piece measures approximately 11" x 8.5".
Reverse side of piece features a partial stamp at top right corner, which is largely illegible to this author.
Francisco Zuniga (Mexican, 1912-1998) was born in Costa Rica to parents who were both sculptors. Most of his work depicts female figures in natural states. Zuniga gained serious respect for his figurative work, which would only be eclipsed by his later work in sculpture.
