1864 Dated Ames Civil War Cavalry Sword with Scabbard
1864-Dated, Model 1860 Cavalry Sword Civil War Period by "Ames" with Scabbard, Very Fine.
Civil War Period Model 1860 Cavalry Sword, 34.75" single-edge blade marked on the ricasso, "U.S." over "C.A." over "1864" date. The other side with, "BESS SWORD WORKS, CHICOPEE, MASS". Its metal scabbard is lacking the throat piece and has a few typical dents from actual use. The brass guard is intact and has a dark yellow to olive color age patina with the pommel marked "C.A." and "J H". About 50% of the twisted brass wire and leather covering the wood grip is lacking. A collectable sword with some nice markings and the blade has areas of natural age patina.
