Description
Reagan ALS on Teachers, Ex-Forbes

REAGAN, RONALD. Autograph Letter Signed, “RR”, July 12, 1967, 1 p., California, 8.5” x 11” on lined paper, to a campaign supporter, Susan Bray. Minor loss at top not affecting text, staples holes at top left corner, else fine condition. From the Forbes Collection.

Reagan responds to a letter from a supporter who requests that her $6.25 campaign contribution be refunded, as she does not support his policies on mental health and education. He writes, in part, “I appreciate your support but am concerned that you perhaps don’t have the complete facts on tuition, mental health care etc.”

“I wonder if your parents aren’t really trying to help you discover some of the hard facts of life while they are still here to lend a hand. There is an old economic lesson to the affect that ‘there is no such thing as free lunch’. Someone has to pay for it even if someone else is eating it.”

Accompanied by the original letter sent to Reagan, stamped “Received Governor’s Office” on July 11, 1967.
