Description
**First Time At Auction**

Native American, United States, central and southern plains, Plains Indians, ca. early 20th century CE. A stocky club with a slender handle and a roughly spherical beater head inlaid with five cruciform lead panels. An original leather strap is fed through a pierced hole near the bottom of the tapered handle, and the entire weapon is enveloped in rich red-hued pigment. Size: 17.2" L x 3.3" W (43.7 cm x 8.4 cm).

Condition
Beater head reattached to top of handle, with light resurfacing and overpainting along break lines. Minor abrasions and nicks to handle and beater head, with fading to original pigment, a few stable fissures, and desiccation to leather strap commensurate with age. Nice remains of original pigment throughout.
