Jedidiah Morse (1761-1826) was born in Connecticut and graduated from Yale College in 1783. While teaching, Morse wrote the first edition of Geography Made Easy in 1784. It was very successful, and ran in many editions. Historian George White claimed this was the first school geography published in the United States. While this copy is missing the Asia and North America maps, the others are present, including those of Africa, Palestine and Europe. Howes M-840.
Condition
Top cover detached, top of spine missing, binding somewhat worn, scuffed and rubbed, signatures and one rubber stamp on endpapers and pastedowns, missing maps of Asia and North America, aging and browning, scattered foxing and soiling throughout, especially in the first part of the book; overall good.
