Description

Nearly 780-page, two-volume book containing the early history and geography of the young America and American continents. Although Volume One is broken up into chapters on Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas Territory, Missouri, Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, West Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Michigan, it also includes chapters on the North-West Territory, Missouri Territory and, surprisingly the Oregon Territory. Volume Two has a short chapter on the Georgia Gold Regions and one on Missouri Lead Mines along with covering the Atlantic States, British and Danish Possessions in North America, Iceland, The Mexican Republic, West Indies and South America. Originally published in 1828 as A Condensed Geography and History of the Western United States. The History and Geography of the Mississippi Valley to which is Appended a Condensed Physical Geography of the Atlantic United States and the Whole American Continent (2 volumes in 1) by Timothy Flint. Third edition published 1833 by E. H. Flint in Cincinnati and Carter, Hendee and Co. in Boston. Listed in Howes. Full leather. Front cover detached, rear cover almost detached. Tips worn through; head and foot of spine chipped. Spine label very readable. Comes in a custom clam-shell box. 5.75 x 8.75 469 pp. and 310 pp. respectively.
