April 12, 1813-Dated War of 1812 Period, Ornately Handwritten "United States of America State of New York" Soldier's Enlistment Mans "Loyalty Oath", Choice Very Fine.
This War of 1812 Manuscript Document measures about 9.25" x 7.75" and records the solemn Loyalty Oath of Joseph Burton of New York, 1 page, boldly written in rich brown ink on clean laid period paper. Burton signs at lower right after agreeing to, "...bear true faith and allegiance to the United States of America, that I will serve them honestly and faithfully against their enemies or opposers whomever -- and that I will observe and obey the orders of the President of the United States, and the orders of the officers appointed over me according to the rules and articles of war. -- (Signed) Joseph D Barton".
This would have been signed by Burton on his enlistment into the U.S. military. Countersigned at lower left by William Pelham Wood, Justice 8th Ward.
