April 15, 1865 Assassination Newspaper: "HIGHLY IMPORTANT! The President Shot! Secretary Seward Attacked"
April 15, 1865-Dated Civil War Period, New York Daily Tribune Newspaper reporting Abraham Lincoln Assassination, 8 pages, complete, Choice Very Fine.
An original historically important "Mourning Edition" with black inner borders around all of the columns on pages 1, 4, 5, and 8 measuring 21" x 15.75", 8 pages, clean and complete. This was one of the earliest reports " this newspaper was printed before confirmation that the President had died from his wounds. On Page 4, the headline of the third column reads, "HIGHLY IMPORTANT! The President Shot! Secretary Seward Attacked". Includes 11 dispatches received by the paper, some contradictory, from the initial news of the shooting to descriptions of the actual event and the story of the assassination attempt on Secretary Seward. The dispatches take up 2-1/2 columns of text. The balance of the paper includes lots of Civil War news and local advertisements. This paper was disbound from a larger volume and has a small sticker "State Libr'ry 12Jun65" covering the RI of TRIBUNE. The all-important Page 4 is in good quality despite some minor edge tears and a printing flaw affecting the first two columns. A fantastic original period piece for serious Lincoln Assassination collectors.
