Declaration Signer Samuel Huntington ALS with Oliver Wolcott, Jr. Signature
Single page autograph letter signed on laid paper, 7.75" x 4.25". Dated "Norwich April 28th 1787" and signed by Samuel Huntington as "Saml Huntington". One inch round repaired cut cancels infilling loss. Slight touch up at the top of the "S" in "Saml". Strong vibrant inks. Additionally signed on the verso by Oliver Wolcott, Jr. as "Oliv. Wolcott Jr.". Wolcott, Jr. was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, the 2nd United States Secretary of the Treasury, and a United States Circuit Judge. The town of Wolcott, Connecticut was named in honor of Oliver, Jr. and his father Oliver, Sr. About 1798. "Fort Washington" on Goat Island in Newport, Rhode Island was renamed "Fort Wolcott". Fort Wolcott was an active fortification until 1836. It later became the site of the United States Naval Torpedo Station, which became the location of the United States Naval War College.
A superb example of two important signatures, letter shown in part below:
