Description
**Originally Listed At $100**
Africa, Nigeria, Ogoni peoples, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A large carved wood mask with abstract zoomorphic features. It has oval-shaped eyes, a prominent nose, an open mouth with a rounded chin, and two perky ears atop a wide brow. Around the mouth and upper eye rim are dark-blue painted details, and silver-toned paint details are visible on the nose and exterior of blue-painted mouth designs. While faded, the mouth and lower eye sockets display remnants of applied red paint; the remaining surfaces of the mask would have been colored a bright shade of yellow, though age and earthen material have imbued it with a light brown color.
